The title explains it all. This book literally includes every prayer in the Bible. What is special about this book is that the prayers are broken down into 9 categories including blessing, confession, prayers for insight, petition, praise, response, statement, thanks and worship. The author further breaks down each section into two subsections which include full prayers of that particular category and only verses that fit the definition of that category from all the other biblical prayers. Sound a little confusing? Don't worry, the author includes many graphical charts explaining the methods of his madness. I greatly appreciated these references as I too was quite perplexed upon reading the chapter regarding his layout of the book to follow.
Another nice feature of this book is the precursor to the actually meat of the book (the prayers themselves). The author gives us a few chapters on prayer and how to pray. These chapters can be a great asset to the reader if they are able to weed through, in my opinion, an abundant and almost off putting use of scriptural citations and quotations from other authors and well known Christians. If you like this sort of thing, then this book is right up your alley. If you are like me and like to get right down to the point quickly in a non-fiction book, you may find that use of quotations and Biblical references distracting from the thought the author is trying to convey to his readers. Albeit my initial frustration I did find some very usable and practable suggestions on how to pray and even what to pray when. The author also throws in some interesting stories to drive the point home.
All in all I would give this book 4/5 stars. This is because the majority of the book is composed of all the prayers of the bible, just as the title suggests. I would consider it an excellent addition to any Christians reference library. The book could be used in a multitude of ways including evangelization or personal prayer time. The only negative aspect of this book is the over use of Scriptural citation and Christian quotation. If you are yearning for a deeper prayer life or feeling inept in the prayer department, I would absolutely suggest this book as a tool to
help get you through a rough patch.
help get you through a rough patch.
All in all God's Book Of Prayers hits a high note in the prayer department. Don't let the authors affinity for citation and quotation keep you from a valuable tool in your prayer life.
