I literally read the book from cover to cover in a span of 48 hours. Jen Hatmaker (the books author) is so funny and engaging so it made for an easy read. With chapters called : Nair, Diet Pills and Other Things That Don't Work- Ineffective Strategies For Connecting with Scripture and Tweezers, Velcro Rollers and Other Tools for Girls-Bible Study Tools You Have to Know About, she makes learning this specific Bible atudy method fun and engaging. The meat of the book is chock full of ideas and strategies plainly layed out so even the novice Bible study student can grasp these tools quickly. Jen even includes excerpts from her own personal journal as examples in the book!
After analyzing her methods one at a time throughout the book, Jen provides a 4 part appendix that in one section (Journaling Strategies) summarizes all she has taught us. I literally ripped that part out of my book and stuck it in my Bible study journal.
This book can also be used in small groups and there are companion leaders and study guides listed in the appendix. Jen is as thorough as she is hilarious! Other goodies include an optional reading guide to get you started.
This book relies heavily on the Holy Spirit as our guide when studying the Bible. The Modern Girl's Guide to Bible Study has shown me how to take advantage of the Advocate, Teacher and Helper Jesus sent to us for times like this.
I give this book 5 out of 5 stars based on the information provided, the readibility, how funny and engaging the author is and the amount of information I gleaned and retained. I actually still use this method of study daily and enjoy my quiet times with my Creator.
Until next time, my fellow book loving busy moms (and dads). May God Bless you and keep you.
